PS 110 Brooklyn

by nyscout

Dovetail shaped guttae-like dentil and "quadglyphs" among other things (like dropped puns) set this doric inspired/informed school apart.

The First Unitarian Church of Providence completed in 1816 by architect John Holden Greene displays a unique Federal style use of the order employing "bundled reed" beaded columns and wild guttae-like dentil.

Masonic Grand Lodge of Manhattan

Photos by MidtownGuy

This Doric room takes its cues from the Parthenon, complete with lion heads, centaurs, and in the Greek manner features mutules above both the triglyphs and metopes.

The polychrome interpretation can be credited to classical architecture scholar Jacques Ignace Hittorff.

The precise geometric meanders show adherence to a tightly regulated proportioning system.

A French twist
