The skyline is really filling in between the ESB and Madison Square -

That Manhattan Mall building with the Daffy's and the Modell's probably has a lot of development rights locked up.

I'm salivating at the thought of that glass landscraper making way for a beautiful Nouvel tower. (I know, the chances of it are tiny. But still...)

That corner deserves something huge, preferably the size of a One Bryant Park or even larger.
As for use, retail on the bottom 2 to 4 floors, offices above that. That would be nice. |

The problem is that area is so dense with pedestrians already.

I was thinking the same thing. That Manhattan Mall is a POT that must go!

That building (the old Gimbel's) has a large foot print. It would be nice to get something to the effect of Citigroup Building that increases pedestrian area, provides attractive and higher capacity subway entrances, provides a streetscape that complements Greeley Square, and offers diverse retail.
We did see the Manhattan Mall (commercial) space within the building reduced to provide emergency space for Bank of America following the 9/11 fiasco. The building has no landmark value (although some might argue for sentimental value). The most exciting thing to happen to the building was the great neon added for the original Manhattan Mall. Although that was not quite apropos for the area, I did like like it. Sixth Avenue is increasing in height in a steady march uptown. I think we'll see taller buildings all the way up to the stomach turning Bryant Park Tower. It will come. It's just a matter of time. |

It's like 3 different buildings stacked on top of one another.

Sixth Avenue's 54-Story Hybrid Tower Gets a Name
November 3, 2009, by Joey ![]() The list of reasons to be obsessed with the new Kimpton Hotel/rentals skyscraper growing out of 835 Sixth Avenue has been steadily growing. The 54-story building is already a crazy site for a pretty much dead part of town. Add the wacky Blade Runner-inspired restaurant, and now, via HotelChatter, the name: Hotel Eventi. Eventi! Perky, and also the size at which we take our morning latte. Meanwhile, architecture firm Perkins Eastman has added a couple looks at the building's outdoor plazas to their website. Check 'em out: ![]() Kimpton's Next Hotel in NYC Will Be Quite an Eventi [HotelChatter] 835 Sixth Avenue coverage [Curbed] http://curbed.com/archives/2009/11/0..._name.php#more |

It seems those exterior images have now been removed from the Perkins / Eastman website
.Too bad this one isn't looking like what was shown in this post, way back when it was still a hole in the ground ... |
